About Wajer

The name Wajer has truly become a hallmark in international yacht building. Although each of our yachts is built in the Netherlands, they travel all over the world. Often they serve as day boats at vacation homes, but they are also used as tenders for superyachts. As a family business with over 300 employees, we are incredibly proud of this. We are not only known for our yachts but also for the unparalleled service we provide to our customers worldwide. Owning a Wajer means maximum sailing pleasure, "without a worry."

The Shipyard

Each year, we build about 40-50 yachts at our shipyard in Heeg (Friesland), ranging from the Wajer 38 to the Wajer 55. In Lemmer, we construct our newest model, the Wajer 77. A team of approximately 200 colleagues works on the development, design, construction, and testing of around 40-50 yachts annually. Our production process is designed to be as modular as possible. While we have many different disciplines in-house, collaboration always comes first.

Family Business

For nearly three decades, the Wajer name has been renowned in the high-end luxury yacht sector. In 1992, Dorus Wajer began building the first Kapiteinssloep in his hometown of Loosdrecht for the Dutch market. The success was so significant that he soon moved the shipyard to Heeg, Friesland. About 14 years and 300 Kapiteinssloepen later, Dorus developed the Wajer 37, a fast and seaworthy yacht that, like the sloep, allows for ample outdoor seating. Shortly after its introduction in 2006, the Wajer 37 was named HISWA Boat of the Year.

In 2010, his son Dries (then 23) joined the company and took the Wajer 37 across borders. A few years later, dozens of Wajers were cruising the Mediterranean, and the fleet expanded to include the Wajer 38, 55, and 77. Today, Dries leads the company, and there is now a Wajer to be found around the globe.

Wajer in focus

We invite you to view some interviews and videos made about Wajer over the past years. They provide a great insight into Wajer Yachts and the people who have brought the company to where it is today.

The Shipyard

Although we are located in various parts of the world, the shipyard in Heeg (Friesland) is the beating heart of our company. With a team of around 180 colleagues, we work there on the development, design, construction, and testing of yachts until they are fully ready for delivery. Customers often visit to view their yacht (under construction), accompanied by our sales team. Additionally, our finance and HR departments are based there, and Heeg serves as the home base for the Management & Executive Team.

Management & Staff

At Wajer, we are always looking for energetic and ambitious individuals who want to grow with us. This applies not only to our production facilities and service hubs but also to the broader organization behind them. Since we work in small teams, our business support roles are very dynamic and multifaceted. We regularly seek financial professionals, buyers, sales and marketing experts, and HR professionals, at junior, senior, and management levels.

International Hubs

In addition to building the best and most beautiful yachts in the world, our primary goal is to fully take care of our customers. From our hubs in Amsterdam, South France, Ibiza, Mallorca, and Miami, we provide top-level service. Our clients can turn to their local hub for technical support, maintenance, cleaning, and arranging a captain and crew. We also offer advice on sailing routes, make restaurant reservations, arrange airport pick-ups, and organize (weekend) trips by boat. In short, everything for a perfect day on the water, "without a worry."

Summer Crew

At our service hubs in Amsterdam, South France, Ibiza, Mallorca, and Miami, our captains and crew are ready to support clients through our Summer Care program. Clients can subscribe to this program during the summer months to benefit from our services 24/7. These services include technical support, daily cleaning, provisioning, covering of yachts, and, if desired, providing a (permanent) captain. Before the summer season starts, the entire crew undergoes training at the Wajer Academy. This internal course covers the technology and sailing characteristics of Wajer yachts, the sailing areas around the hubs, as well as etiquette and house rules. After successfully passing the theoretical exam, there is a practical weekend in South France or Ibiza to ensure that all deckhands and captains are fully prepared for the sailing season.

Engineering & Technical Services

The Engineering & Technical Services department at our shipyards in Heeg and Lemmer consists of a dedicated team of Detail, Design, and Project Engineers. They focus on creating (detailed) designs, technical drawings, and schematics for new yachts, special requests, internal issues, and innovations.

Work & Learn

We are eager to offer young talent the opportunity to gain experience within our company and learn more about various fields, from yacht building to events and sales. In some cases, a work-study program or the opportunity to write a thesis may also be possible. We would be happy to discuss how we can help you achieve your learning goals.
