Welcome to Wajer
At Wajer, the relationship doesn't end when a yacht is delivered. Far from it. With Wajer Care, we guarantee our owners the ultimate "without a worry" experience. Our service organization spans nine hubs worldwide, backed by a permanent team of more than 130 specialists. We now look after around 80 yachts in Miami, with a growing fleet in The Hamptons and Connecticut.
As Captain USA, you are the face of Wajer for our American owners. You deliver outstanding service on the water and keep every yacht in flawless condition. This calls for maritime craftsmanship, a sharp eye for detail, and a tireless focus on hospitality.
What you'll do
As Captain USA, you're responsible for the complete experience on board. You sail independently in demanding, busy waters. Think of the waters around Florida, the Connecticut and New York coastline, and longer crossings to the Bahamas. These are not easy waters. You navigate through tidal currents and past sandbanks that aren't always on the chart. No two days are alike. One day you're sailing with owners and their guests, the next you're making sure the yachts are cared for down to the last detail.
You prepare every trip meticulously. You handle provisioning and catering. You make sure the owner's favorite snacks and drinks are chilled and ready. You check the safety equipment and see that the yacht gleams inside and out. On the water, you offer service that is invisible yet perfect. Alongside sailing with owners, you also run sea trials for our Sales team, letting prospective buyers experience the unique handling of a Wajer. You also prepare yachts for transport by road or water.
What a day looks like
You start at half past eight with the daily kickoff, where you run through the day with the team. Then you drive to the first boat in your fleet. You work through the yachts on your list in detail: you check the systems, carry out minor maintenance, and make sure everything gleams inside and out. Between boats there's sometimes a fifteen- or thirty-minute drive, and sometimes everything sits at one dock.
After lunch, you head out on the water. In the afternoon you sail with owners and their guests, or you run a sea trial for the Sales team. In the evening you moor, tidy up, and get the boat ready for the next day.
The following day might be all about sailing from early morning into the evening, and the day after that you're off. Every captain manages their own part of the fleet. No two weeks are the same.
Where you'll work
You work in a dual-season setup. This means you're based in vibrant Miami during the winter months, and in summer the operation expands north toward Connecticut and New York.
You're part of Wajer Care USA. You report directly to the Operations Manager and the Area Manager. The permanent team in the region consists of one Operations Manager and four Captains. During peak periods, you work alongside freelance captains. In your day-to-day work, you're supported by our Business Support department and a full local technical team. Together, you make sure the "without a worry" promise is kept, every single day.
What you bring
You're naturally independent and service-minded. You understand what it takes to deliver service at the highest level. You keep a cool head in unexpected situations, whether it's changing weather or a last-minute shift in the schedule. You have a hands-on mentality. Thoroughly cleaning the deck and carrying out minor maintenance are as much a part of your craft as the navigating itself. You're socially skilled and communicate easily with owners, colleagues, and local suppliers.
You also bring:
At least two years of demonstrable experience as a Captain
A gross monthly salary between €2,870 and €3,500 (CAO Metalektro).
Dutch inland boating licenses one and two
An RYA Powerboat Level II certificate
Fluent command of English, both written and spoken
A Yachtmaster certification is a strong plus
Experience with night sailing is a strong plus. If you don't have it yet, we'll help you develop it
