Working with our beautiful yachts on a daily basis? Apply now for our Summer Crew 2025!

Job description

General

Wajer Yachts is a Dutch family-owned company with a global reach. Although we operate in various locations worldwide, our production sites in Heeg, Heerenveen, and Lemmer (Friesland) are the beating heart of our company. Here, a team of approximately 300 colleagues works on the development, design, construction, and testing of around 60–70 yachts annually. Additionally, part of our 200 annual maintenance and refit projects is carried out in Heeg. Our sales and marketing team operates from a beautiful office in Amsterdam.

From our international service hubs (including Southern France, Spain, and the US), we offer our customers unparalleled service through our Care program. Owning a Wajer means maximum enjoyment on the water, “without a worry.” These three simple words are the foundation of our operations. Our technical team ensures that Wajer yachts are always in excellent technical condition during the busy boating season. In addition, our Summer Crew is responsible for cleaning, refueling, restocking fridges, covering the boats, and even planning trips.

What will you be doing?

Along with a group of (mostly Dutch) colleagues, you will work at one of our service hubs in Southern France or Spain, with the goal of providing complete care for our clients. As part of the Summer Crew, you will be responsible for cleaning and navigating the yachts, both for owners and charter clients. You may also serve as a dedicated captain for one of our clients throughout the season. In addition to your responsibilities for our yachts, you’ll also ensure the cleanliness of apartments, vehicles, and work with respect for others and the environment.

During the daily briefing, your manager will inform you of your tasks for the day. If you're scheduled to sail, you’ll be assigned a yacht, informed of your crew, and given the departure time. You’ll check that everything is onboard, from fuel to fresh towels, and make sure the fridge is stocked with your guest’s favorite drinks. Throughout the day, you’ll safely transport your guests from one destination to another, show them the most beautiful bays in the area, and ensure they have an unforgettable day on the water!

Working in the Summer Crew is much more than just sailing. You'll be pouring drinks, conducting technical checks and handling the water toys. At the end of the day, you’ll return the yacht to its home port, clean it thoroughly, and report any required technical maintenance to our Service Engineers through the Wajer app.

It’s important to note that you won’t be sailing every day. This depends on your experience, the number of scheduled trips, and the weather conditions. On non-sailing days, you’ll be assigned other tasks, such as organizing the warehouse, cleaning the office and common areas, running errands, or updating administrative records.

In addition to your daily duties, you may be asked to assist with various (client) events and boat shows.

Job requirements

What are your assets?

In addition to a passion for boats and watersports, we are looking for candidates with a strong sense of responsibility and technical insight. You understand what it means to sail a luxury yacht with guests—you are responsible for their safety on board. You have an eye for quality and efficiency in your work and never leave anything to chance.

Additionally, you have:

  • Preferably, a completed vocational of higher education
  • Strong technical insight or experience with technology (through hobbies, education, or work)
  • At least an ICC (or similar) + sailing experience on (fast) motorboats – if you do not have the licenses before the closing date of this vacancy, we cannot consider your application, even if your exams are scheduled!
  • Availability for at least 8 consecutive weeks — we prefer candidates who are available for the entire season (April through October)
  • Proficiency in English; speaking Spanish, French, or German is a plus!
  • Driver’s license

Due to the long processing times for work and residence permits in France and Spain, we are specifically looking for EU candidates for the 2025 season.

What can you expect?

You will live with the team in Wajer-provided housing (shared rooms), and for several months, you’ll rely on each other 24/7. Therefore, we are looking for true team players! In addition to a highly educational job, you will work in a professional environment with a young but ambitious team where you can develop significantly.

Additionally, you’ll receive:

  • A fixed gross monthly salary
  • Wajer-provided housing in Southern France or Spain
  • A freshly prepared dinner from Monday to Friday
  • The opportunity to work with our beautiful yachts daily

Working for Wajer in the Summer Crew can be a stepping stone to a full-time career at Wajer. At the end of the season, we offer the most talented individuals the opportunity to apply for the Wajer Care Talent Pool. This program offers a full-time position with personal guidance and intensive training, preparing you for a professional career at Wajer.

Application procedure

As part of your application, you will submit a video pitch where you creatively introduce yourself. We will also ask you a few questions in advance, such as about your sailing experience and availability. To ensure a smooth start at the hubs, we have several fixed intake moments. During your application, please indicate which intake date suits you best and how long you will be available.

The first screening is based on your CV, video pitch, sailing experience (including licenses), and availability. If you pass this stage, you’ll be invited for an interview in Amsterdam or Heeg, and you’ll receive several assessments.

At Wajer Yachts, we use assessments from The Selection Lab during the application process. These assessments help us gain an objective understanding of you, regardless of your background or experience. The tests provide insight into your intelligence, competencies, motivations, and cultural preferences. You’ll receive a personality report from the assessments, giving you a better understanding of yourself. By sharing this report with us, we can get to know you faster and better assess how we can contribute to your development.

After a successful application process, we will start our (mandatory) Wajer Summer Crew Academy. During the training session and e-learnings, we will teach you everything about our yachts, the technology, etiquette, and other practical matters. Additionally, you will take an RYA Powerboat Level 2 course (including Commercial Endorsement), ensuring you are well certified. The training sessions of the Wajer Summer Crew Academy will take place on the weekends listed below at our location in Heeg, and attendance at all parts is mandatory.
